Apostille
There appears to be much confusion within many postings about certifying documents.
As a former US Notary, I would like to help clarify for others:
An Apostlle is attached to a document by an official governmental office, certifying the document is an authentic document from a particular governmental office of that particular country. That is all the Apostille represents. Please do not detach the Apostille from the document you had certified. Removing the Apostille voids the goverment's authentification of the document.
A US notarization of a document, only states that the document was signed by the individual sitting before the notary, at the time of signing it does not authenticate the document itself.
The above are two completely separate actions, and most likely both are required when submitting an "official" document from one country to another.
My application has been pending in Lisboa since 2021. So long that one of my required US reports expired. Therefore, I recently had to use a US service, to once again, place an Apostille my updated document for resubmittal.
