Living together then marriage can I apply Portuguese citizenship now?

Hello everbody,

Me and my bf living together since 2017 november and married this June. my question is can i apply portuguese citizenship now or should i wait 3 years?

    @Proteus222 in order for to apply right now, you will need to have that cohabitation period 'recognized' by a Portuguese Civil Court. For that you need to hire a lawyer, and that might be expensive.


    It's probably better to wait for the 3 year married period.


    Please note that with only 3 years of marriage, you'll still have to prove that you have 'ties' to the Portuguese community (that requirement can be waived if you have at least one child that has portuguese citizenship)
