As a former US Notary, I would like to help clarify for others:

An Apostlle is attached to a document by an official governmental office, certifying the document is an authentic document from a particular governmental office of that particular country. That is all the Apostille represents. Please do not detach the Apostille from the document you had certified. Removing the Apostille voids the goverment's authentification of the document.

A US notarization of a document, only states that the document was signed by the individual sitting before the notary, at the time of signing it does not authenticate the document itself.

The above are two completely separate actions, and most likely both are required when submitting an "official" document from one country to another.

My application has been pending in Lisboa since 2021. So long that one of my required US reports expired. Therefore, I recently had to use a US service, to once again, place an Apostille my updated document for resubmittal.

The following provided me fast and efficient service from within the US.

I read through the guidance on this forum and other resources. But it's not very clear to me on the following questions. I appreciate if anyone can help out here...Thank you so much!

1. Does his father, regardless of his nationality, fill out the 1C form as Declarant and sign in Quadro 5?
2. If both parents sign the form, should the Notary Public authenticate both signatures by signing next to our signatures? Usually Notary Public will stamp and sign. Does the stamp and signature need to fit into the box?
3. Since this is free, I believe I just need to send the package to Portugal, and wait to hear from them?
4. The guidance on this forum suggests to send package to Porto. But on the government website, it tells us to send it to Lisbon. Can anyone clarify on this please?

So far I have gathered:

• My son's long form birth certificate, apostilled
• My birth certificate
• A copy of my Cartao de cidadao, notarized. Will get it apostilled if needed
• A copy of his father's passport, notarized. Will get it apostilled if needed

Based on my mothers birth and marriage registeration, I had put my birth for registeration last year in March

After my documents were apostiled

As my expectations were like it would take a year or little over

Could you please update on how long this second registration would take

As it took more than 4 years for my mother's registration

About me - I am a dughter of the above born in 1960 in Pune, India but my birth was only registered in 2017 by a court order in India. Apart from that I have a school leaving certificate and Heirship certificate mentioning my Parents name.

Am I eligible to transcibe my birth in Lisbon. If yes, Can i directly proceed with my birth registration or first transcribe thier marriage (Nascimento of my father already have a comments saying he was married to my mother in 1948). Please guide

Crc Lisbon is takes 2 years for this birth process ,while Arquivo central porto takes 1-2 months.i want to know if I can directly send the documents from Goa via courier to porto registry whithout a lawyer or agent or third person physically visiting the registry .just door to door courier possible? And for marriage it's takes 9 months for transcription from Lisbon

I’m applying for Portuguese citizenship by descent (Form 1C) through my father (Portuguese citizen). I live in the UAE and will be mailing my application directly to Lisbon since there are no consulate appointments.

I’ve gathered all documents but I’m confused about apostille vs notarization, and I keep seeing conflicting info online.

Here’s what I have so far:

• My long-form birth certificate (from my birth country) → will be apostilled ✅
• My father’s Portuguese birth record (from Civil Online) → no apostille needed, correct?

My questions:

1. Passport copy
2. – Is a certified true copy from a local (UAE) notary enough?
3. – Or does the passport copy also need to be apostilled?
4. Form 1C signature
5. – Can my signature be authenticated by a local UAE notary, or does it have to be done at a Portuguese consulate? (I can't find any appointments here that's why a notary would be better)
6. – If notarized locally, does the form need to be apostilled? (UAE is not part of the Hague Apostille, what should I do)

I really don’t want my application to be delayed or rejected over a technicality.

My father is a portuguese citizen by birth (born in a former colony) and has a passport and everything.

My mother has applied using 3.1 around January time 2025 and the police documents were valid at the point of delivery to Lisboa registos centrais.

Now she has not received a code to monitor her application online yet, from what other people have posted, it seems when you do get the code, you are considered "submitted" as of the date you get the code, NOT when it was delivered.

Does this mean that her police documents will still be valid at the point of analysis ? as police documents need to be within 6 months of issuance.

I have evidence of delivery but i am wondering if that is sufficient.

I submitted my application for citizenship based on Article 1c (my parents being Portuguese due them being in born in a former Portuguese colony) by post/letter back in June 2025. I have still not received any confirmation or processing number.

Do you know how long it should take before they acknowledge the application and/or provide me with the relevant tracking number to check progress?

I sent it via UPS, and I have received proof of receipt.

It has been more than 4 years, what it the timeline to complete the process and is there a way to speed it up?

When I applied to the application me and my wife we had only one son, and now we have three.

Im struggling with the IRN to conclude my birth registration process which has been ongoing for more than 7 years. Since March 2025 i have been sending several follow up emails, almost 20 for the update yet they remain least bothered to respond. My lawyer who submitted my case has ghosted me. There is no channel to complain. The IRN/CRC has got all the verification that was pending consular very yet they have not taken any action to complete my case which has been pending for ever. I would appreciate anyone who could follow up with the IRN to ensure they complete my process and don't leave my case pending. I have no one to go to and hope someone here and help me with the IRN/CRC. Thanks. Ronald

I have submitted my nationality application through marriage. This was done through the embassy in the Netherlands in November 2024. The embassy has confirmed that my documents were sent and should be with the IRN but I have not received any tracking number or email from the IRN.

Should I be concerned, as per the group spreadsheet it seems that there are a few cases like mine who have not got the tracking Number ?

Is there anything I can do from the Netherlands, do I need to hire a lawyer in Portugal to cancel and refill a digital application as those seem to be getting a tracking number at least.

Can someone advise - how long doe it take to get access code from lisbon office once they have delivery of documents via post?

i submitted my apication via DHL to lisbon crc in october 2023, till now nothing has changed it still shows submitted. I'm trying to get help from a lawyer who can help with my pending birth registration for nationality process submitted in 2017, its 7 years now and i have found out from IRN that they are trying to verify my birth certificate from India. The IRN sent the Portuguese embassy in New Delhi, India 3 requests to verify the certificate but they have not got any response, i checked with Indian authorities and they have not received any such request from the consulate in India, the Consulate is non responsive and is ignoring all my attempts to get the information. Its been 7 years and my mother and brother have moved out of India and i await to be united with them. I seek help to put pressure on the Consulate in New Delhi to get my case moving, they seem to be very adamant and non-cooperative. Appreciate any assistance. Thanks

Já se passaram 7 anos e meu caso não passou do processo de verificação consular, que envolve a verificação da minha certidão de nascimento emitida pela Índia através do Consulado em Nova Delhi. Disseram-me que, a menos que a verificação do Consulado de Nova Deli seja concluída, a CRC não avançará com o meu caso. Tenho escrito incansavelmente ao Consulado em Nova Delhi, mas eles não parecem demonstrar nenhum interesse e apenas me deram uma resposta a centenas de e-mails. Afirmaram que, de acordo com o pedido da CRC em Dezembro de 2021, enviaram um pedido às autoridades diplomáticas, mas nenhuma resposta foi recebida. Forneci ao consulado um banco de dados governamental on-line onde eles podem verificar minha certidão de nascimento emitida pelas autoridades locais, mas eles não estão fazendo nada a respeito. Sinto que eles não estão fazendo nada em relação ao meu caso e que meu caso demorou muito tempo - 7 anos. Alguém tem alguma solução aqui, meu irmão e minha mãe deixaram a Índia e estão esperando para se reunir com eles, mas isso simplesmente não está avançando. Eu apreciaria qualquer orientação, apoio e ajuda para superar esse obstáculo. Hello members, i hope someone in this forum can help me navigate this issue.

Issue - In Dec 2017 my nationality case was submitted in Lisbon through a lawyer on the basis of my grandparents and parents successful registration in Lisbon. Its 7 years now and my case has not moved past the consular verification process which is to verify my Indian Issued birth certificate via the Consulate the New Delhi. I have been been told that unless the verification from the Consulate in New Delhi is complete, the CRC will not move forward with my case. I have tirelessly been writing to the Consulate in New Delhi but they dont seem to be showing any interest and have only given me 1 reply to the hundreds of emails. They said - as per the CRC request in Dec 2021 they sent the diplomatic authorities a request but no response is received, when asked which office/dept it was sent to in India they dint provide any information. I have understood that it would have been sent to the Indian Ministry of external affairs, when probed with the Indian External affairs, they said they dint get any such request and asked me for details of the request. But the Consulate in New Delhi does not comply with any request and is giving me a tough time. Then, the Indian external affairs ministry sent a correspondence to the Consulate in New Delhi they dint reply, now they sent a reminder, still no reply. I escalated to the Portuguese Foreign Affairs ministry and they said they forwarded my issue to the Consulate in New Delhi but after 1 month no progress yet. I have given the consulate an online government database where they can verify my birth certification issued by the local authorities but they are not doing anything about it. I feel they are not doing anything about my case and my case has taken a unreasonable time - 7 years. Does anyone have any solution here, my brother and mother has moved out of India and await to reunite with them but this is just not moving forward. I will appreciate any guidance, support and help to get past this hurdle. Also, my lawyer is of no use. The CRC is just pushing me saying consular verification is pending and Consulate is ignoring me.

According to the EU regulations, it seems that no apostille is needed for a birth certificate from EU countries, but I was wondering if that was really the case.
